  • Everything I've Ever Done That Worked
    by Lesley Garner

Ananga's Review from her Practical Issues Page October 2005

Beautifully presented as a square hardback - this is one of those books where you can flick to a page and read whatever catches your eye. This is a popular format for self-help books these days, but many I've looked over seem to spread themselves thin on relevant content.

With Lesley Garner this is not the case, she is a first class writer who draws you into some substantial, thought provoking and inspiring reading on every page. She offers genuinely useful tips and information and has obviously put a great deal of thought and heart into this book.

Highly recommended for a gift or for personal reading.

    by Bill Ford

Ananga's Review from her Practical Issues Page September 2005

"A very practical and accessible book. I like the small chunks of information, the easy and useful exercises and the fact that you can just flip to a page if you fancy a quick and helpful five minutes reading. Plenty to think about and plenty to try without having to wade through a heavy read to get to it."

  • 50 Self-help Classics: 50 Inspirational Books to Transform Your Life from Timeless Sages to Contemporary Gurus
    by Tom Butler-Bowdon

Statistics state that the vast majority of self-help books are never completed. Most are bought in a moment of need, or resolution, and then put on a shelf where they sit and gather dust. Apparently, the average amount read of any non-fiction book is only about 10%. The problem? We want the advice, but we're too busy to get to the bits that really matter.

How handy then, to have the "best bits" of 50 of the greatest self-help reads available in one concise volume.

Tom Butler-Bowden has no doubt researched extensively to compile this thoughtful distillation of these classics. His bite size overviews are easy reading and readily convey the message of each title represented.

This is a great resource for gaining a rapid understanding of the thoughts of 50 leading inspirational authors. If you're into self-help reads, it's a must have.

  • Healing Without Freud or Prozac: Natural Approaches to Curing Stress, Anxiety and Depression Without Drugs and Without Psychoanalysis
    by David Servan-Schreiber

David Servan-Schreibar is a psychiatrist and neuro-scientist trained in the "hard sciences". That training included being taught contempt for traditional healing approaches, but that all changed when he observed Tibetan doctors at work and began to wonder whether the disregard science held for natural healing was based on fact or ignorance.

Self-confessedly disappointed with the results delivered by his chosen profession, David poses the question "What if we could cure stress, anxiety and depression without drugs and without talk therapy?" this book is his answer.

If you've ever wondered about alternatives to the standard western approach for treating the mind, this inspiring and informative read will give you some fascinating and encouraging answers.

  • S.U.M.O.: Shut Up, Move On: The Straight-Talking Guide to Creating and Enjoying a Brilliant Life
    by Paul McGee

In a world where we are encouraged to claim compensation for practically anything that befalls us that isn't to our liking, the voice of Paul McGee rings loud and clear with a much needed message: "we are where we are, because we went there". SUMO is the hand book of getting on with life. A wonderful blend of entertaining and practical information that nudges us to take responsibility for ourselves and not fall into the life wasting trap of majoring in minor things.

Paul McGee is funny, knowledgeable and the first to admit that he has to remind himself, on occasions, to practice his own methods. In short, he is human and happily fallible and that makes him a very likeable author.

SUMO is a great book and a great idea! Highly recommended.

  • The Right Questions: Ten Essential Questions to Guide You to an Extraordinary Life
    by Debbie Ford

The author of the bestselling "Dark Side of the Light Chasers" gets us thinking about our day-to-day decisions. If there's one key area where personal development experts are united in opinion, it's that we can't get far when we're operating on autopilot. From Anthony Robbins to Zig Ziglar, the self-help mentors of today all urge us to ask ourselves life-defining questions that put us in a place from which we can choose our responses, rather than react off the cuff.

But where to start? And what to ask? Here Debbie Ford presents ten useful and thought provoking questions, each with real life examples of application and subsequent change. Any one of them regularly considered and applied would make a difference to your day-to-day life experience. Trying all ten, I believe, would make that difference a big one.
