1. start sipping cool water as soon as pain strikes. Water dilutes the acid and reduces the discomfort.
2. reduce the causes - acid foods, coffee, refined sugars (which are also acidic), highly processed foods, eating on the go, or late at night.
3. eat calmly and try and keep stress to a minimum, stress plays havoc with digestion and can increase the acidity of the stomach
There is a book called Your Body's Many Cries for Water by a Dr F. Batmanghelidj which gives a detailed account of how water can cure acid reflux every time.
