Living by Design Blog Carnival No.32

Welcome to the latest edition of our Personal Development Blog Carnival. Once again I received way more submission than I could publish, but as I looked through them all I could see a common theme running through the articles from some of my favourite articles - choice and focus. Are we making conscious choices in how we live our lives, are we doing the best we can with our options, and are we grateful for what we have, or complaining about a glass half full?

These topics are dear to the heart of Living by Design - I hope you enjoy reading the featured articles as much as I did.

Joseph Ekwu presents MAKE A CHOICE? posted at Josephekwu's Weblog, saying, "make a step to change your life."

David B Bohl presents How to Change ?Why? into ?Why Not?? posted at Slow Down Fast Today!, saying, "Unfortunately one of the most common phrases in our language is “I can’t.” People say, “I can’t be that,” “I can’t do that,” and “I can’t have that” more often than they realize. And more often than they would if they knew how it kept them from being open to the possibility for more in their lives."

Roberto Montanez presents What do people think about you? | Psychbits posted at Psychbits, saying, "Have you ever wondered what people think of you? Do they see you as the person you want to be seen? This article explains how you see yourself against the reality of your actions."

Peter presents How Gratitude Can Change Your Life posted at The Change Blog, saying, "Behavioral and psychological research has shown the surprising life improvements that can stem from the practice of gratitude. Giving thanks makes people happier and more resilient, it strengthens relationships, it improves health, and it reduces stress."

Chris Edgar presents Are You In Permanent "Crisis Mode"? posted at Purpose Power Coaching, saying, "We can seriously limit our fulfillment if our attention is always on preparing for the worst rather than creating the life we want. One of the keys to freeing ourselves from permanent “crisis mode” is to pay close attention to our patterns of thinking and behavior, and notice the ways we’re constantly bracing ourselves for catastrophe in how we live. Here are three recommendations for developing this kind of awareness."

 

An Emerging Concern

In a sense the following article is off-topic for this carnival edition, but I picked it out for inclusion as I believe it addresses something important. Here in the UK there is growing concern over under age drinking and the Guardian newspaper recently published an article urging all parents to discourage children from drinking under age even at home. Surgeons here are reporting seeing young people with old people's liver diseases - this is a new and growing concern and one that I, as a parent am watching closely. Over to Brain Blogger...

Brain Blogger presents Psychiatric Conditions and Alcohol Abuse in the College-Aged posted at Brain Blogger, saying, "I always find epidemiological studies very interesting because they can give you a snapshot of the prevalence of certain conditions. Have you ever wondered about the prevalence of psychiatric conditions and alcohol use disorders among college students? This is a topic that has been studied extensively by many different research groups."
