Meditation: Is 5 Minutes Really Enough? Natural Health and Holistic Living expert Jane Alexander certainly thinks so. In this month’s Natural Health Magazine, meditation is number 5 in her list of 10 Ways to De-stress, and she doesn't see why it has to take hours.
Here’s what she has to say: “Even five minutes of meditation can bring your heartbeat down and soothe your stress levels.”
Of course, meditation takes many forms and those different forms each have different purposes. But for those suffering from stress and anxiety five minutes of deep and focused breathing can definitely have a profound effect. The wonderful thing about fully entering into meditation for five minutes is that the benefits you will experience extend far beyond that precious five minute investment into the rest of your day.

When it comes to meditation regularity is of greater importance than infrequent long sessions. If you were to meditate for just five minutes morning and evening your would benefit far more than if you spent one hour a week in a meditation marathon.

Thanks for commenting. It's interesting isn't when we challenge ourselves to take up peaceful practices like meditation and see the impact they have on our lives?
Half an hour a day seems to be enough time to push beyond the basics of a few moments peace and really get something out of the experience. And of course, as you point out regularity is key.

I love your newsletter. Thank you for the piece about "oil pulling." I have been known to practice the "daily routine" diligently and recently have fallen away from it. You've inspired me to return. You didn't mention that the oil should be heated just to boiling prior to using. The ayurvedic teachers I learned from suggested this. The oil is hot enough when you drop one drop of cold water on the surface and it sizzles. Let the oil cool, then return to the bottle. You do this one time only to the entire bottle of oil. Then, I place in a squeeze bottle for daily use and heat in a bowl of hot water before I apply it.
mmmmmm, so nice. Also,I use sesame in the winter, (I'm in a cold state) and olive oil in the summer. This supports my vata-pitta doshas. It's amazing how renewing this daily practice is to the physiology. Actually, Body, Mind and Spirit.
